International Conscientious Objection Day Ceremony
Not all Americans mobilized for war in 1917. Desiring a negotiated peace rather than military intervention, dissenters refused to support the war effort, imagining a global order without war. Observe International Conscientious Objection Day on May 15, with an hour-long ceremony that remembers those who opposed World War I and helped initiate modern peace movements. A dedication of two Walk of Honor bricks will be recognized to honor the legacy of conscientious objectors and their commitment to non-violence and reconciliation.
