The Garment District (an area roughly defined between 6th and 11th Streets, and Washington and Wyandotte Streets) consisted of a collection of workshops, stores and businesses that sprang up after World War I. In its heyday the industry comprised among the largest garment districts in the nation and was Kansas City’s second largest industry and employer.
In this history crawl walking tour, attendees will hear stories of the people who made stylish marks on our city, and view several of the buildings and landmarks in the Garment District which played important roles in this period in local history.
